“Vacancy”

This week stinks! Anyone else having a horrible week? It seems like nothing is going right. It seems like everything I touch crumbles to pieces. Everything I say hurts someone. Everything I do is wrong in some way. What’s with that?

Maybe its the weather!?!? Maybe the stars have aligned to gang up against me!?!? Maybe it’s because I forgot to take my meds one morning this week and it’s throwing me all off kilter!?!? (I haven’t done that for a while but it usually does!)

I can’t even seem to think of anything to write in my blog. I wish I had some interesting story or incite to share, but I can’t even seem to do that correctly this week. I’ve tried and tried. I’ve started writing on four different subjects and just can’t seem to keep rolling with it. My mind is as empty as my coffee cup sitting beside me. There’s a big blinking sign over my head flashing “Vacancy… room for rent!”

I wish I could fast-forward to next week… hopefully I’ll be in a better mood and in a better place! Anyone with me?

Remember to now go to http://new2babycakes.blogspot.com/ to keep following me.

BIG CHANGE!!

I’ve been looking at other blogs out there and they are SO much cooler looking than mine. I’ve pretty much done all the cool stuff that WordPress will let me… and that’s not much! WordPress is more for writing alone with a few photos here and there. There’s only so much I can do with backgrounds and photos and add-ons.

I’ve decided that blogger is the way that I should go (and should have from the beginning). There’s so many more fun things I can do. So, from now on follow this link and go to:

http://new2babycakes.blogspot.com/

I have transferred most of my old posts over there and I am going to continue posting there – NOT here. I will keep this blog up to help direct people over to my new one, but I will not be adding anything. Check out the new one and let me know what you think. I’m going to have a lot more fun with it and I hope you do too.

Thanks for stickin’ with me!

Welcome to the neighborhood!

I was sitting at my computer (surprise… surprise) on Tuesday morning while Lexi was quietly doing yet another art project. It was only about 9:30 and both us girls were still in our jammies. We had to run errands that day, but it was rainy outside and I was feeling quite lazy because of it.

I had my robe tied tight around me and still had two blankets on top. (We have yet to turn the furnace on, so it’s been chilly in the house.) I had my hot cup of coffee right beside me for that extra shot of warmth. I had my notes on my lap, working on ads. My hair was a mess… my house, even worse!

Then there was a knock at the door… OH NO! I can’t open the door like THIS with my house looking like THIS! I looked at the door and it’s my new neighbor. GREAT! What is she going to think of me?!?! But I had to answer because she saw me sitting there.

I answer the door, quickly fluffing my ratty hair and tieing my robe a little tighter. There she stood with two cappiccinos and a smile! “I hope you like coffee,” she says.

So I invite her in, apologizing for the mess, both on me and in my house. Now, I DO have to say that my house was not that bad… but bad enough. I had just done about 8 loads of laundry the day before, and they were still folded in little piles all over the kitchen counter. There were toys scattered here  and there, but not as bad as they usually are. It has been worse on many occasion!

We sat and talked for about a half hour. We both like to read, although it sounds like what takes her a few hours takes me a few weeks to read. I wish I could read faster than I do! She’s also an “out-of-towner”. Which means a lot in Goodhue! We out-of-towners don’t seem to fit in real well. We try to talk to our neighbors, go to community functions, and patronize the local businesses, but no one seems to let us in their little Goodhue world. So I was glad to hear it when she said after living in town for five years, she still had not fit in. It made me feel a LITTLE less like a loser! We out-of-towners have to stick together or we will die alone!

She has a 17-year-old daughter and two sons. One is a couple years older than Emma and one is in Emma’s grade… how great is that? Kids to play with! YAY! They have already played with them a few times and they all seem to get along pretty well. They are not moved in yet as they are doing work to the house before they move in. But when they do, I will be excited.

She seems super nice and I can’t wait to get to know her better…

MN Sports ROCK!

I’m sure you’ve all heard, but this last couple days have been interesting for Minnesota sports fans – to say the least! It’s been fun to watch and be a part of (even though I’m not actually participating).

It all started with a couple crazy Twins games on Friday and Saturday. Friday’s game, they were ahead 10-0 by the fourth inning. But the Twins let the Royals get 7 runs in the next couple innings, making us all bite our nails for the last half of the game. Saturday was another nail-biter! Again, they pulled it off.

Then Sunday’s game was one for the records. Kubel hit two 3-run homeruns! Young  had two homeruns and Cuddyer added one more. They won what was supposed to be the LAST Metrodome game 13-4. It was quite a show! The post game ceremony was fun to watch too with the top ten Metrodome moments and all the Twins veterans. It took me back to my childhood… watching the game from the “cheap seats” in the nose-bleed section; Dad whistling the “charge” call louder than anyone around; being AT the World Series game 2 in 1991; and (best of all) meeting Herby at my uncle’s house when I was about ten years old!

Last night was the Viking-Packer game… OH BOY! Now there’s something to watch! Favre as a Viking against his old team (our arch enemies)… on Monday Night Football! Can’t get any better than that! Probably most of you were watching (or at least heard the highlights), but it was a great game. It was such a CRAZY first half… Vikings ahead…  tied… Vikings ahead… tied… VIkings ahead… My head was spinning. At least no one can say it was boring! The second half wasn’t as exciting, but was still awesome! Watching Favre kick some Packer tail was the best football I’ve seen from the Vikes since I became a fan about 15 years ago. It’ll be interesting to watch what happens when we travel to Green Bay!

The one thing I got out of the football game that I didn’t like was that I learned they have already renamed the dome. What? The body’s not even cold… It’s like a guy that just lost his wife and the next day he goes and finds a new, young chippy. I don’t know about you, but the “Mall of America Feild” will ALWAYS be the HHH Metrodome in my book!

“Now we gotta come back here on Tuesday and drink some more beer!” Kent Hrbek said at the ceremony on Sunday. Twins return this afternoon for game 163 at 4:00 against the Tigers in the tie-breaker for ALCS division champ title. I would LOVE to be at the game! (Anyone want to go?) They are the ONLY team in Major League history to play a tie-breaker game in back-to-back seasons. Hopefully, this year will turn out better than last! GO TWINS!

Fall’s Here!

fallWell, I could whine about how it’s getting cold and how everything is dieing outside. I could whine about the snow and slippery roads it brings. I could whine about the with never ending nights of winter soon to be here. I could whine about being cooped up for the next six months and not being able to camp.

But no whining here! I LOVE the fall! It’s my favorite time of year.

I LOVE the crisp cool air leaving me with the need to grab my cozy warm slippers and sweatshirt. I love sleeping with that crisp air blowing in my window every night and grabbing an extra blanket to cuddle in with. Plus, it gives me an excuse for cuddling closer to my hubby to keep warm!

55 (2)I LOVE the colors popping outside. It makes for beautiful photos and perfect scenes. I only wish they would last a little longer.

I LOVE the anticipation of snow. OK… I love snow too. I love blizzards (not just the DQ treat!) I know they’re coming… it’s just a matter of time.

I LOVE the new shows on tv. I love watching the new fall line-up after the long boring summer with nothing on the 250+ channels that we have.

I LOVE watching the game on lazy Sunday afternoons. Either I’m with friends having a couple beers and lots of treats or I’m half watching, half sleeping on our couch throughout the game.

I LOVE cuddling up with the kids, having movie night with a homemade pizza and p35opcorn while the wind whistles outside.

I LOVE Thanksgiving! My favorite holiday! Most say Christmas or Easter. I say Thanksgiving. I love the non-stop yummy food. I love the family gathering without the expectations that Christmas brings. I love Black Friday, even though I never shop that day. I just love the relaxation of that day and putting the Christmas tree up that day. Then begins the Christmas season… 🙂

What do you LOVE about fall?

Out to the movies

A couple weeks ago I went out to the movies for the first time in two years. I met a couple of friends at the theater with my heart set on a romance because, God knows, getting Darren to watch a romance with me is like getting him to down a shot of gasoline! So, I walk in the theater all excited, ready for my heart to melt.

Instead, they want to go see Julie and Julia – the new one with Meryl Streep and Amy Adams. I was NOT excited any more! But I said, “Sure, that looks good too. I don’t care what we see.”

Of course, deep down I was thinking Ick… that looks so ridiculously stupid. Why would I waste my time on that?

We pay our $8 each to see a movie that in six months we can rent (and tape) on pay-per-view for only $4 and watch as many as we want. Who comes up with this stuff?

We then head to the snack counter and again each shell out  at least another $8 on popcorn, candy and pop that literally cost the theater a couple of bucks. Now easily $50 lighter between the three of us, I remember why I don’t do this very often.

We proceed into the movie that I (if you recall) wasn’t excited about in the first place. Soon the lights dim and we watch easily 15 minutes worth of previews and commercials. I didn’t realize that they were now showing regular commercials at the theater. Thanks to DVR and Tivo, no one is watching them on tv anymore, so they have to put them somewhere I guess.

juliejulia480Surprisingly enough, the movie turned out to be really cute! My favorite line was, “It’s hotter than a stiff cock!” I guess it made it more funny that it was coming from a 40-some year old woman in the 1950’s. By the end, I realized that it was a movie that Darren would have never sat through and I had two friends by my side. I also got to laugh, which I find myself not doing enough of these days. And I got a break from reality, even if just for a little while. So maybe it was worth all that hard-earned money after all, at least every once in a while. And who needs a sappy romance anyway when you’re already so in love?? heehee!

The movie was based on Julia Child, the well known chef and tv personality and a woman who had a crummy job, wanting to find some fun in life, or at the very least, some time to kill. She cooks out of Julia’s cookbook and blogs about it every day for a year. She finds a new passion, and rekindles some old ones as well.

So, here I am… trying to write an entertaining blog for something to do. I guess, the difference is that she got the “entertaining” part down. Me, I’m still working on it!

Whatcha thinkin’?

I’ve noticed there has been a lot more action on my blog lately and I hope it continues. It’s fun to see that people are interested in what I have to say… either that or it’s just one poor soul feeling sorry for the lack of visitors I have, so they just keep returning! I love getting feedback from my “fans”… aka groupies, wanna-bes, admirers, addicts, followers… Please feel free to comment any time and as often as you would like.

It’s actually pretty easy. Just click on the comment link right below the post you would like to comment on. Fill in the blanks with your name, email, and comment. You can leave the email blank if you wish. This is used only if you want to receive emails of comments that follow yours. All comments have to be approved by me… so it may not show up right away.

Weather you want to comment to tell me I’m an idiot (which will probably happen often) or you want to add a funny story of your own, keep coming back and put your two cents in every once in a while… it’s fun!

Be who you are and say what you feel because those that mind don't matter and those that matter don't mind!
