We did it!
Only two weeks to go…
The time has finally arrived! It’s only two weeks until mom and I (try to) walk 60 miles for a cure for breast cancer. Thanks to all of you, our team has raised over $28,000 and still going! Can you believe that?!?! Here is some info for those of you that may want to join us long the way. There is an opening ceremony on Friday morning, cheering stations along the way, and a closing ceremony on Sunday night.

The Twin Cities Breast Cancer 3-Day will begin with an emotional Opening Ceremony at Southdale Shopping Center in Edina, where we’ll gather together to pay tribute to the many women and men who have lost their battle with breast cancer, and honor the survivors. We’ll remember the reason we’re walking as we make our way through the picturesque Edina neighborhoods, then stroll around the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes, Sculpture Garden and the University of Minnesota. We’ll finish the day viewing the beautiful homes along Summit Avenue before heading to camp for the night.

The race was spectacular!! Great weather, awesome participants/supporters and wonderful volunteers that helped with the event!! We are blessed to live in a wonderful community where people reach out and support each other!! We had approximately 146 runners/walkers and many kids as well. Dave Quie from St. Paul took 1st place for the men in 19 minutes 53 seconds and Shelly Ritz from Cannon Falls took 1st place for the women in 26 minutes and 11 seconds. Ryan Epps from Cannon Falls was the first youth runner to come across the finish line. We made over 1400 dollars! Thanks again to all participants and sponsors. Special thanks again to the 24 Hour Workout Center for being our main sponsor and Mill Street Tavern for helping host the event.
Help Whip Cancer!
Our breast cancer 3-day team is hosting a Pampered Chef party. Instead of receiving product for hosting the party, they are giving us 30% of the sales toward our charity! Everyone needs something for their kitchen, so click here and enter Heidi Sue Lindell as the host. Orders must be in by Saturday.
We had another successful Boogie, bringing in nearly $4000! The band was once again outstanding… thank you all for sharing your talent! There were 116 silent auction items. Many thanks to individuals and businesses that very generously donated these items.
3rd Annual Boogie!
Our 3rd Annual Boogie to Beat Breast Cancer event with live music, drinks, dancing and of course the silent auction will be held at Grandpa’s Event Center April 25th in Cannon Falls this year. So make sure to save the date!
Since some of you have donated items to our silent auction in the past I thought I’d put up a post to see if anyone would like to do it again. We’re trying to do themed baskets this year for the smaller items (ie: Coffee Basket, Movie Night Basket, Spa Basket, etc – get creative so we have variety), so if your interested in donating a themed basket or items to go in one or just interested in donating a larger, stand-alone item please leave a comment, email me or call me or anyone on the team.
We also hope to see lots of friends and family at the event – more info to come.
Here I go again… with my mom!
As most of you know, I participated in the Breast Cancer 3-Day last year in honor of my mom. I am excited to announce that I am walking once more in August, but this time WITH my mom! We are both looking forward to a year of hard work ahead and LOTS of walking!
Last year, our team raised nearly $26,000 & this year’s goal is $30,000! Our team hosted a number of fund raising events last year including a 5K run, a dance with silent auction, a volley ball tournament, cookie sales, Pampered Chef sales, 2 garage sales and concessions at an art show. Even with all those fund raisers, we still need your help. We each must raise at least $2,300 in order to walk. We would love it if you considered donating to this worthy cause. The net proceeds will support breast cancer research, education, screening, and treatment through Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund. Without a cure, an estimated 5 million Americans will be diagnosed with breast cancer – and more than 1 million could die – over the next 25 years. That’s a pretty startling statistic. No one should have to face this disease. Without this valuable research, who knows how many women would not have made it through their struggle. Just think of how many more we can save together!
As you decide if and how much to donate, remember that this is a 60 mile walk throughout three days. We will have to train hard for the next few months to build up our endurance in order to walk this far. I would not be doing this again (or convince my mom to do this) if I didn’t believe this event is worth 100% of every muscle ache, every blister, every tear!
Check out our team BLOG. We update our progress, announce events, post photos, healthy recipes, research data and there’s even a posted VIDEO slide show from last year’s 3-Day. Keep checking back for updates!
